Neutron redirection into core?

It may be difficult to separate "theory" from "application," but let''s see if this helps facilitate the discussion.

Neutron redirection into core?

Post by brian31525 »

Is is possible to redirect the neutrons emitted back into the core, and or would this be wise?

Brian,

How do you propose to redirect a neutron with an energy of 2.4 MeV?

Its got to be possible, they redirect neutrons in an h bomb for the secondary, and they are much much more energetic, so why cant it be done. I don't know how thats why I asked?

Brian,

Focusing cold neutrons is an area of research.

With fast neutrons all you can do is scatter them using a moderator.

The neutron can't be turned. There are neutron reflectors, but you can't really make them. Moderators scatter as already noted. Finally, to what imagined purpose would getting all those neutrons back to the center have? They certainly won't retain their original reaction energy. Inquiring minds want to know.
