the emmission properties of thoriated tungsten are identical to pure tungsten......unless the filament is activated to form a mono atomic layer of thorium.

this monoatomic layer is formed by high temperature difusion and only will occur under favorable conditions. then the emmission properties will be 100 fold over pure tungsten.

in a fusor 1 you will not create favorable conditions and 2 you can not maintain a favorable condition for maintaining the thorium layer.

oxide coatings (which still have to be activated and maintained) are more suited for micron vacuum fusor operation.
