Necessary voltages and square cross-section grids
Index Previous in Thread Next in Thread

I've just begun the manufacture of my demo fusor as a second year undergraduate lab project (I'm a student at The University of Birmingham, UK). While I now have an excellent pyrex bell jar, several different pumps(including a diffusion pump capable of about 10-6mm Hg) the power supply is a slight worry. While various supplies are available (including one I salvaged from a dead microwave) I need to know roughly how much current the system is going to draw while running on air(and possibly other types of gas). Another thing which I'm curious about is the constuction of my grids. They are made up from circles cut from 3mm stainless steel plate which I've cut and welded into position(8" outer grid, 1.5" inner) I'm wondering if the fact that the 'wire' used to make them has a square cross-section rather than circular will effect results significantly?
