PWM Power Supply
Index Previous in Thread Next in Thread

Does anybody have **GOOD** information on designing Switch Mode Power Supplies? I'm looking forward past my current design (still being built), which uses a big honkin' transformer to produce DC.

What I really want to do is build a test supply that can be used for different projects. I want to be able to put out high voltage DC with decent current, and I also want to put out HV AC at varying frequencies.

For those who don't know what PWM is, it is a design where you pump say 240V/60Hz up to say 480V/40kHz, then pump that up to your working voltage/frequency. This allows your transformers to be much smaller since the required size is inversely proportional to frequency. The problem is that they are much harder to build than your standard transformer to rectifier scenario.
