Amateurs reading these posts shouldn’t let the figures depress them. I’m a student with practically zero cash and over the course of the past three months I’ve managed to cobble together and operate a neutron producing fusor. Admittedly I do have rather unique borrowing/scrounging opportunities as my physics department has literally rooms full of stuff available for my use. Despite this a fairly modest outlay of cash combined with some HV and vacuum knowledge should mean ANYBODY can get to see the truly amazing spectacle of desktop fusion. This is the beauty of the IEC design- nobody will EVER build an amateur tokamak but with some hard work anybody sufficiently interested can ‘do’ fusion.
