HV power supply construction
Index Previous in Thread Next in Thread

I am assembling the components for the high voltage power supply. I want to make it as safe as possible. I have a 15kv 30 ma neon transformer, 15kv 350 ma microwave diodes, 10 kv filter caps, 50 kohm 250 Watt current limiter resistor, 100 megohm series resistor for voltage readout, and if I can get the bozo on ebay to acknowledge the sale, 7.5 megohm bleeder resistor. I can get the meters from Radio Shack.

Some of these components are quite bulky especially the resistors. I was thinking of mounting all the components except the transformer and meters on a 1/2 inch thick plexiglass box using nylon cable straps and nylon screws in tapped holes in the box walls. I plan to use high voltage feedthroughs into the box consisting of neon sign cable surrounded with at least one layer of tigon or vinyl tubing connected to the box with nylon barbed connectors. Does this sound reasonable? Is tigon tubing a good enough insulator?
