Most metal spinning places have hemisphere forms in a variety of sizes already (it's a real common shape). As I recall, Ace Metal Spinning in Los Angeles, for instance, had hemisphere forms in a variety of sizes up to about a meter in diameter.

Call around, and I'll bet you'll find some of convenient sizes. It's those darn flanges that cost a bunch. Hmm.. I know someone with an NC mill.. Anyone have a G-code file for a conflat flange?
