(That seems to be a cool approach for driving very high power lasers using radiation from a fission reactor – but not in the “small is beautiful” Farnsworth style.) Is there another NPL that more directly deals with Inertial Electrostatic Confinement Fusion?

Dr. Miley started NPL a few years ago and operates out of the University of Illinois campus only a few builidings away from the UI IEC reseach lab, they do not have a webpage, but they do have a NASA SBIR phase II contract which should be in its second and final year of funding.
To my understanding NPL's work is somewhat indipendant of the Daimler efforts, but since both are run by Miley that would seem kind of impossible.

Los Alamos does not publish their research because they are operating on the secret side of the laboratory. As for Bussard he won't publish, because his effort is a private effort and he has no desire to tell the world anything until he can break even. Dr. Laverentiev is a theoretical phycisist and he was consulting with Farnsworth on the IEC device back in the 60's. He wrote scinetific papers that are posted in some of the earliest posting on this board.

Rumor also has it that there is a strong effort from Japan.
