The patent mentions nothing about the efficacy of the possible applications or that they are worth following up or even economically feasible. It just mentions that they hold rights to that application for there devices.

There is sufficient prior art and patent work by themselves and others to make all of the applications doable and realizable, even if expensive compared to competing processes.

It is probably a good patent and certainly good enough to pass PTO muster. (It was issued)
