Yes, definitely you will need to analyze the enrgies of the protons. Fusion protons (P + H3 reaction are mostly very-energetic over a narrow range while the protons from some stripping operations will be all over the place.

Meanwhile I have reposted the question regarding stripping to the Mad Scientist Net to see if there are any takers amongst the egg heads or professional fusion researchers out there, this time.
