OK, found it. The device is something George Miley is using, outlined in a recent paper which is, at the moment, at work. It is a semiconductor proton detector, not a scintillator. Oxford type something-or-other, and I have been unable to locate the thing on the web so far, in a limited search. George did some very sharp collimation with it. It does go in the chamber, behind lead foil to reduce x-ray interference.
