All little more to add on the ballast valve. Looking at the exploded view on the 1400, you can see it is a vented needle valve sealed by an O ring, which replaces a plug which is Part 24. When I removed the upper bolt, I found it goes right to the high pressure chamber,so I am pretty certain the ballast valve just bolts on where the plug is.
Haven't checked the valve price, though.
