Re[9]: Diffusion Pump questions

There is no adapter on my pump, other than a reducer fitting on top of each stack, but the water cooling coils come right up to the bottom of each reducer. Getting them off would be impossible. It seems to me that these diff pumps are really a pain to put into a system. They all require a 180 degree loop in the plumbing, sometimes with little or no clearence for the hoses or clamps. Yesterday, I silver soldered a KF-16 flange onto the outlet of one of the pumps, only to have to remove it because I couldn't get the clamp on.

Do these pumps require some form of thermal insulation under the pancake heater? I was thinking of using some high temp aluminum duct tape to hold on a wad of fiberglass insulation. Of course I would keep the tape away from the electrical contacts.
